Amendments to Bylaws
Secretary/Treasurer Election

Dear reader:

The current Secretary/Treasurer of the Game Theory Society, Willemien Kets, needs to step down for personal reasons, and we need to hold an election to appoint her successor as soon as possible.

The election of a successor is essential and particularly urgent for the timely processing of membership and financial transactions.

One of the conditions to elect a successor is that two thirds of the council members approve the relevant changes in the bylaws that facilitate the replacement election. Since we need two thirds of all council members, not just two thirds of the ones who voted, it is essential that all council members participate in the voting that is explained below.

This document shows the proposed changes in the bylaws, which are highlighted in yellow. They facilitate us to hold an election to appoint a successor in such a circumstance, the procedures of which are not specified in the current bylaws. The motivation and implications of the proposed changes can be found on this document.

The Steering Committee nominates Frank Thuijsman at Maastricht University as a candidate for the position of Secretary/Treasurer. Essential information about him can be found on this nomination form. The succeeding Secretary/Treasurer needs to clear some administrative issues under the constraint that the Game Theory Society is incorporated in the Netherlands, and we found that Professor Thuijsman is an ideal person for the job.

To appoint a successor as soon as possible, we will send you a link to a voting platform in a separate email, where you can simultaneously (i) approve/disapprove the changes in the bylaws and (ii) perform approval voting regarding the candidate, which is effective if and only if the changes in the bylaws take effect as a result of the voting (i).

Voting rules: The changes in the bylaws take effect if at least two thirds of the Council members approve, and the candidate is elected unless more than half of voters disapprove.

I appreciate your understanding, and I request all council members to participate in the voting.

Yours sincerely,

Michihiro Kandori
President, Game Theory Society
