1. Message from Willemien Kets, secretary and treasurer of the GTS

Dear Member of the Game Theory Society:

I am inviting you to vote in order to elect new members to the Council of the Game Theory Society. The Council is the legislative and elective body of the society. It consists of 36 individuals, elected through approval voting by the members of the society. The duties of the Council are to: (i) approve and elect candidates for officers of the society, (ii) elect members to the Advisory Board, (iii) elect fellows of the society, and (iv) approve changes in the bylaws of the society. (Also see https://gametheorysociety.org/wp-content/uploads/Bylaws-Amended-2020.pdf.)

Two new Council members, Professor Renee Bowen, Professor of Economics and the School of Global Policy and Strategy at the University of California San Diego, and Professor Arne Traulsen, Professor of Theoretical Biology at Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology, have been appointed by the President of the Game Theory Society with the advice of the Steering Committee. Ten more new Council members will be determined by the outcome of this election.

Further down in this e-mail you find, along with a letter of our President, the names of the 22 candidates in this election. You also find there the current composition of the Council; the 12 members who were appointed in 2017 are ending their terms. (Also see http://gametheorysociety.org/people/.) The pdf file at https://gametheorysociety.org/wp-content/uploads/Council-nomination-forms-2023.pdf gives the qualifications of the candidates, in a format that was prescribed by the Society.

Voting is according to the method of approval voting. That is, you can vote for (approve of) as many or as few candidates on the ballot as you like, and those ten candidates that receive most votes will be elected, with ties being resolved by the President of the Society.

Voting will take place through LimeSurvey, and you will get an invitation email from Administrator that contains the instructions on how to vote. If you don’t receive the invitation email in the next 24 hours, you should first check your spam folder amd then contact Olivier Gossner at olivier.gossner@cnrs.fr .

This voting procedure ensures that individual ballots cannot be traced back to voters. Hence, no member of the GTS will know how another member of the GTS has voted.

The vote will open shortly and the deadline for casting your ballot is Monday, July 31, 2023.

Thanks for your cooperation,

Willemien Kets
Secretary and Treasurer of the Game Theory Society

2. Message from Michihiro Kandori, president of the GTS

Dear Game Theory Society Member:

The Steering Committee of the Game Theory Society (GTS), composed of Michihiro Kandori (President), Gabrielle Demange, Matthew Jackson, Olivier Gossner, and Willemien Kets, has unanimously selected the people in the attached list as candidates for membership in the Council of the GTS from a list of more than one hundred nominations.

The Council is the elective body of the GTS and it is thus essential that it represent the wide variety of members and fields of the Society. The 22 candidates are all outstanding, and they include game theorists as well as scholars whose interests and contributions belong to important areas that are strongly connected to game theory and its applications. We hope that you will give careful consideration to all candidates; the information found at https://gametheorysociety.org/wp-content/uploads/Council-nomination-forms-2023.pdf should be helpful, particularly for those candidates that may be less familiar to you.

We trust that your vote will help to maintain a strong Council, composed of leading scholars in game theory as well as related areas.

Michihiro Kandori
President of the GTS
on behalf of the GTS Officers
