The Game Theory Society aims to promote the investigation, teaching, and application of game theory.

Game theory studies strategic interaction in competitive and cooperative environments. It is a central tool for economics and the social sciences, poses challenging research questions in mathematics, and is applied across a wide variety of fields, including computer science, neuroscience, philosophy, and biology.

The Game Theory Society was founded in 1999, and holds its World Congress every four years. The first was held in Bilbao, Spain in 2000, and the second in Marseille, France in 2004. The third congress GAMES 2008 was held July 13-17, 2008 at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, USA. The fourth World Congress of the Game Theory Society GAMES 2012 took place July 22-26, 2012, at Istanbul Bilgi University, Turkey. The fifth congress GAMES 2016 took place July 24-28, 2006, in Maastricht, the Netherlands.

The Council of the Game Theory Society is an elected body that consists of leading experts in game theory and its applications.
